Mental Health Care

Mental Health

We have two specialist psychiatrists providing mental health care at Ascent Psychiatry. Dr Muller and Dr Williams, are available on-site, Monday – Friday.

Ascent Psychiatry provides mental health assessments, advanced treatment, and longer-term care when needed.

We are always flexible in our approach. Your care does not have to be about treating a ‘diagnosis’ or condition alone. We work with you and the problems you present with.

The psychiatrists at Ascent Psychiatry have had extensive and advanced mental health training in identifying people’s needs, making an accurate diagnosis, starting treatment, managing medication, closely monitoring for improvements and, if needed, providing psychotherapy. All treatment is aimed at making your life better than before.

Medication Management

For those seeking relief from ADHD, depression, or anxiety, our team is dedicated to ensuring your safety and comfort throughout your treatment journey. Our personalised approach combines evidence-based practices, compassionate care, and a deep understanding of your needs. We believe that medication, when integrated thoughtfully with therapy and lifestyle adjustments, can greatly enhance your quality of life.

At Ascent Psychiatry, we recognise that medication is just one piece of the puzzle, but it is often a vital one. Our goal is to create a tailored treatment plan that aligns with your unique circumstances, fostering a sense of empowerment and collaboration in your healing process.

For individuals with ADHD, appropriate medication management can significantly improve focus, restlessness, and other symptoms, allowing you to excel in your daily activities. Similarly, for those navigating the turbulent waters of depression and anxiety, medication can often serve as a stabilising anchor.

Talking Therapy / Psychotherapy

Dr Williams and Dr Muller have extensive training in psychotherapy. Both are dedicated to your care and understand that healing encompasses both mind and body. Our psychotherapy approach employs empathy and understanding, providing a safe place for individuals seeking support for conditions such as ADHD and Autism to anxiety and depression.

Through tailored psychotherapy sessions, we empower you to explore your thoughts, emotions, and behaviours. Our collaborative and evidence-based techniques are designed to enhance your coping skills, and facilitate positive change. Whether you’re navigating the challenges of ADHD or seeking guidance for Autism-related concerns, our compassionate experts are here to guide you towards resilience and growth.

Frequently asked questions about mental health and the services provided by our clinic.

Mental illness is far more common (and complex) than most people realise. We are here to help. Our specialist psychiatrists and results coach are warm and friendly and have expertise in providing treatment for many adult mental health problems and conditions, with our ares of special interest being ADHD and Autism.

From your first contact with our clinic, you will be welcomed and understood by our Specialist Mental Health Secretary, Rhiannon, who has mental health training and more than a decade of working in the medical arena.

The Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists has collaborated with mental health experts, including psychiatrists and other health professionals, to produce the ‘Your Health in Mind’ website.

Your Health in Mind offers helpful information on mental health conditions, treatments, and what the psychiatrist’s role is. There are also videos that show you what to expect when you visit a psychiatrist.

Ascent Psychiatry also provides carefully selected videos that provide valuable information on mental health conditions. Patients and carers find the videos of Adult Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) particularly helpful.

Written information and videos help complement the education provided during your first appointment with your psychiatrist.

A psychiatrist is a medical doctor who has completed medical school and gone on to specialise in the field of mental health. The training is in-depth and extensive and the psychiatrist’s assessment and management can cover all aspects of a patient’s life and development. While a high level of medical knowledge is required, a psychiatrist’s training and study extend beyond physical health. The psychiatrist will assess the unique combination of the a patient’s physical, psychological, emotional, social and cultural factors. These factors will play a significant role when developing the patient’s treatment plan.

At Ascent Psychiatry, we feel deeply privileged to guide individuals from states of isolation and emotional pain or turmoil towards a future filled with recovery and renewed hope.

Our psychiatrists employ an array of effective treatment modalities, including but not limited to evidence-based medication and integrative psychotherapy. Building a strong therapeutic relationship is integral to our practice, as we believe that the foundation of hope is essential for success in anyone’s journey towards better mental health.
